Interesting Baby Boomer Statistics for Women

These baby boomer statistics were recently released by the US Census Bureau working together in conjunction with other organizations.  It’s interesting to note how much women have an impact on their generation.

  • Women account for 51% of the total population of baby boomers
  • Women baby boomers who are 50 as of this moment have a life expectancy of 83 years.
  • 55% of women baby boomers who were polled said they were emotionally ready for their children to leave the house.
  • Female baby boomers are less likely to think they have enough money to live comfortably when retiring.

What does this mean for you?  Nothing and anything.  It depends on what you want to do with it.  Baby boomer statistics are indeed interesting, but they’re not a roadmap for you to live your life by.  However, it does give you insight into your fellow baby boomers’ heads.

Get Healthy Now

It also gives you something to think about.  Your life expectancy is higher than a male baby boomer, but that doesn’t mean you’ll live that long. What are you doing to take care of yourself now?  How’s your health?  Now would be a good time to start a good, healthy lifestyle – if you haven’t already.

Deal with Emotional Issues before You Retire

If you’re emotionally ready for your children to leave the house, this means you’re ready for independence and adventure.  If not, perhaps you should sit down and think about why.  Do you think you’ll miss your children?  Do you think you’ll be lonely without them?  Now is the time to deal with these issues before they leave the home.

Prepare to Live Comfortable with the Money You Have at Retirement

What if you don’t have enough money for retirement?  Start making changes and adjustments now so that you’ll be able to live comfortably. There are ways to work with what you have, no matter how little it might be.  Start by calculating what you need right now.  Then think up ways to supplement that and put them into practice.

It is never too late for anything.  Getting older is about getting wiser, and taking advantage of chances and opportunities being opened up to you.
