So you want to try something new? We all do. It’s admirable to get into new things, to try out new ideas and to broaden your horizon. Being over 50 (or close to it) doesn’t mean that you’re limited to “spinster” activities by any means. I’m pretty sure none of you are old cat ladies who sit at home watching soap operas all day.
You want to get out and enjoy life, but maybe you have no idea where to start. If you’re looking for something to get into that’s inexpensive and fun, here are some very creative ideas that you should definitely try out.
3 Fun Ideas for the Ladies
Movie festivals. Some neighborhoods have these for little or nothing. Community colleges sometimes host them free. If there’s no such thing in your area, create a movie festival club. It’s easy. Just invite over some friends for a movie night. Focus on one theme, and watch two or three movies based on that theme. This is a good excuse to share your obsession with certain famous actors, or those romantic films your partner turns their nose up at.
Belly dancing. Belly dancing is a great activity for women of any age. It teaches you confidence in your body and in yourself. Despite what popular media feeds into our heads, belly dancing is not about thin women exposing themselves. It’s about sensuality. Any woman, any size or age can be sexy. As a bonus, you’ll also learn muscle control and you’ll learn more about another culture, which is always fun. Depending on the area you live in, you can get belly dancing classes for as little as $10 a class. Call around, and ask for deals.
Local landmarks. Every place is famous for something. Go see what your area is all about. Many places have museums that you can get into free. If you live in a little town, hop a train and go to the nearest city. State capitols, national parks, and even historic homes all provide educational tidbits of history.
